I feel it necessary to point out the obvious here. It's called ILLEGAL because its against the law! For starters we need to secure our borders. If we don't, then any change in policy would be wasted paper. Secondly, we need to enforce visa violations Anyone overstaying their visa and avoiding the system must be considered a national security threat. There were terrorists who came into this country legally and overstayed their welcome. Had we used the technological sophistication of the US government we could have saved lives. And for crying out loud, stop giving illegal immigrants welfare. Why do you think they cross the border to get here in the first place? Our welfare system is as maxed out as it can be without illegal immigrants stealing benefits from tax paying citizens. Once we start these measures we need to pass meaningful immigration reform that is fair and benefits all Americans. Immigrating to America should be a privilege we give to people willing to do it legally.
